A day after flashes of lightning and cracks of thunder heralded a tornado warning amid heavy rains over Elgin, the City Council will be asked to approve spending $252,527 to add six new weather warning siren systems on the city’s Far-West Side.
Coincidence?
Yes – the agenda was set last week, long before storms raked the city on Tuesday evening.
It is Step One in a three-year plan to install 15 of the units in the areas to the west and southwest, where the city has extended its reach by annexation westward in recent years.
City staff is recommending the City Council authorize the purchase, installation and project services for six weather warning siren systems from Motorola Solutions Inc. In general the city is looking to locate one in the Highland Woods subdivision. Other installations will be dispersed throughout the area bounded by Route 20, Bowes Road, Randall Road and Nesler Road.
The move will add to Elgin’s network of 15 sirens scattered throughout Elgin.
BocaJump will be on hand to provide live, online coverage of the City Council meeting. Following is the council’s agendas of its 6 p.m. committee of the whole meeting and for its regular meeting at 7 p.m.
